Who we are and what we do:

We are a social enterprise working towards a more just society by helping charities develop clear, impactful policy solutions and ensuring their voices are heard in central, devolved and local government. 

Our work with charities includes providing high-level strategic advice around policy development and public affairs strategy, as well as supporting delivery by engaging with politicians as part of influencing strategies, devising and leading creative campaigns and researching and writing policy reports and briefings. Across our team we work with charities of varying sizes and departmental levels, from advising CEOs and senior leadership, to supporting policy, public affairs and campaigns teams with delivery.

About the Consultant role:
This is a fantastic opportunity to join our motivated team, who are passionate about supporting charities to achieve their aims. You will develop your understanding and experience of policy development, public affairs, campaigns and communications in a fast-paced professional environment.

This position offers the opportunity to be involved in all aspects of work in a busy, dynamic organisation with the guidance and support of senior team members, working with some of the UK’s leading charities, and offers substantial opportunity for advancement within the team for the right candidate.

Key responsibilities of the Consultant role:

  • Engaging with a wide range of people and organisations within the charity and public sector, from politicians and civil servants to healthcare leaders and clinicians
  • Supporting in the development of policy, public affairs and campaigns strategy for charity clients
  • Supporting in the development of awareness, public affairs and digital mobilisation campaigns
  • Planning and delivering engagement with members of the UK and devolved parliaments, such as drafting letters and briefings for debates
  • Monitoring the media and activity in the UK and devolved parliaments 
  • Conducting desk research to support our work for charity clients and supporting in the drafting of policy reports, briefings and consultation responses
  • Designing assets for social media for clients and Principle consulting 
  • Producing content for press releases, newsletters and social media, both for our clients and for Principle.
  • Supporting in the planning and running of events
  • Any tasks as may be reasonably expected within the scope of the role

Key attributes:

  • A clear and demonstrable commitment to helping charities to achieve their goals
  • A motivated self-starter who is able to work well in a team
  • Relevant recent work experience in policy,  public affairs or campaigns in the charity sector or another relevant sector
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • An active interest in UK policy and politics
  • An understanding of parliamentary processes in the UK
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (including Outlook, Word and Excel)
  • A good understanding of and experience in using social media channels
  • Ability to conduct comprehensive analysis of information to tight deadlines, ensuring accuracy and relevance
  • Ability to work flexibly across a number of different policy areas and tasks 

Place of work and flexible working:

Mix of in-office and home based. A full-time member of staff is expected to work from the Principle Consulting office (or at a client’s office if needed) for 2 days of each working week.  If the successful candidate would like to be office based for more than 2 days a week, we would be happy to discuss this.

We work at the Impact Hub Kings Cross, and at the London offices of our clients where required.
