Our Mission

What you should know about Principle Consulting?
We are the leading consultancy for charity public affairs, policy and campaigning work. We strive towards a fairer, more just society by empowering charities to develop impactful policy solutions and get their voices heard through effective public affairs and creative campaigns.

Our central mission has three key areas:

Impact

For Charities

For over 20 years we have continuously secured significant, lasting, policy and legislative change, advising and supporting over 60 third-sector organisations across policy areas including health, children’s rights, homelessness, refugee and migrant rights, education and volunteering.

We’ve ensured charities are heard at Westminster, devolved and local governments and received multiple high profile awards for our game changing work. We bring a unique perspective as an agency rooted in the work and priorities of our individual charity clients, whilst at the same time, bringing insights and intelligence from our work across the sector, adding value and driving innovation. Our 20 Years of Impact Report tells the story of our 20 years of partnership, innovation and change.

“Principle have been integral to our work in securing Government support to eliminate hepatitis C in the UK. It’s been an incredible long term partnership and has helped transform hepatitis C prioritisation and care.”

CEO, The Hepatitis C Trust, 2025

Affordability

without compromise

We believe that making a difference should be accessible to all.

As a not for profit social enterprise we offer affordable rates for our expert services on purpose, because we want our services to be a resource for the charity sector – affordable for organisations with limited budgets and enabling those with larger budgets to maximise capacity and outcomes.

Principle’s social enterprise model delivers exceptional value for money because it comes with high quality advice.”

Director of Strategy & Communications, St John Ambulance, 2021

Widening access

to the sector

As a not for profit social enterprise we are dedicated to ensuring that careers in charity policy, public affairs and campaigns are accessible to people of all backgrounds and life experiences. We use our funds to resource our widening access internship and work experience programme for students learning English as an additional language, as well as, schools and colleges outreach. Since 2020, we have hosted six widening access internships to break down barriers to getting into work in our sector and our work experience partnership with Uxbridge College is in its ninth year.

“The Principle internship programme was my first real introduction to the world of policy and public affairs, and it gave me a genuine head-start into the sector. It helped me see how policy and public affairs worked in practice, hone in on the areas I enjoyed most – working with health charities – and gave me a strong foundation from which to build my career.”

People Of Principle.

Our History

Founded in 2005 by two parliamentary researchers who wanted to help charities to be heard in Parliament, Principle is now a team of 12 policy, public affairs and campaigns experts led by joint chief executives Becky Hug and Jane Cox.

Principle officially became a not for profit social enterprise in 2017, reinforcing our commitment to providing first class support to charities at an affordable price, and investing in widening access to underrepresented groups in the policy and political sector.
