Winners: Excellence in Communications – Policymakers
We were awarded this for our work with The Hepatitis C Trust (our longest charity partner). We initiated and led the campaign to change government policy on offering universal testing for blood borne viruses in English prisons.
Identifying the need (higher prevalence of hepatitis C in prison), we built a powerful coalition of stakeholders to change minds, including through co-designing a patient pathway with officials and clinicians, to show that it was achievable. This was a huge success and policy was changed as a direct result of our work.
This policy change has had a lasting impact – in 2023, UKHSA noted that since the introduction of the policy in 2014 (which also includes hepatitis B and HIV) testing has increased from 5.3% to 71%. Our work for The Hepatitis C Trust, which also includes leading their policy and public affairs campaign to successfully secure UK Government commitment to eliminating hepatitis C as a public health concern is one of our proudest achievements at Principle.
