We have helped to drive progress towards eliminating hepatitis C as a major public health concern in the UK, acting as The Hepatitis C Trust’s policy & parliamentary team since 2005 and as the secretariat for HCV Action, the network for hepatitis C professionals, since 2010.
IMPACT
Our campaigning led to the Government introducing a policy of opt-out testing for hepatitis C, hepatitis B and HIV in English prisons in 2013.
Working with the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Liver Health, we held an inquiry into hepatitis C elimination in England, which culminated in the Eliminating Hepatitis C in England report, published in March 2018. The inquiry and report played a key role in laying the ground for the NHS England hepatitis C elimination programme launched in 2019 with the aim of eliminating hepatitis C in England by 2025.
In Scotland, we convene a Scottish Hepatitis C Parliamentary Champions group of MSPs committed to action on hepatitis C. In 2017-18, we worked with the group to conduct an inquiry and develop a report, Eliminating Hepatitis C in Scotland: A call to action, which helped to inform and guide Scotland’s approach to eliminating hepatitis C by the Scottish Government’s target of 2024. In recent years, we have worked with successive Scottish Government Public Health Ministers, including arranging for them to deliver statements of support for World Hepatitis Day.
In Wales, we provided oral evidence to the Senedd Health, Social Care and Sport Committee’s inquiry into hepatitis C, which led to its 2019 report on achieving hepatitis C elimination in Wales. Recently, we have coordinated parliamentary pressure for further action on hepatitis C, leading to the Welsh Government setting out a range of new guidance and requirements around hepatitis C in January 2023, a key development in getting Wales back on track towards achieving elimination.
By organising and hosting events and webinars on behalf of HCV Action, we have provided a forum for those working towards hepatitis C elimination to access information, share good practice and network. These have included ‘good practice roadshows’ across the UK, an annual national conference for hepatitis C professionals and a high-level roundtable meeting to discuss preparation for the maintenance phase of hepatitis C elimination.
Principle provided strategic public affairs insight and campaigns advice, including ensuring our campaign objectives reached senior decision makers and the wider public. They've been brilliant on the creative side, supporting us to develop a highly engaging campaign video and microsite.

Principle Consulting have bought extensive research and public affairs expertise to the Patient Information Forum’s work on integrating the provision of health information into the delivery of care. From day one, the consultants have felt like members of our team, getting up to speed with the topic area quickly, and driving the project forwards. We really appreciate their committed, proactive and flexible approach.

It has been an absolute pleasure working with Principle. Our Consultant hit the ground running and was an integral part of the team.
John James, Chief Executive
I consider the call to bring Principle on board in March last year as one of my very best decisions as a leader.
James Radford, Director of Strategy & Communications, St John Ambulance, July 2021
Achieving cut through during the pandemic has been challenging, but thanks to the expertise and support of Principle Consulting, the work we did to highlight the impact of COVID-19 on our community gave us the platform we needed to raise the profile of rare autoimmune conditions with key decision makers and the opportunity to help shape solutions.
As a result of receiving ongoing support from Principle, we've had huge successes in our advocacy work. In the past year our parliamentary profile has increased a vast amount, Principle helped us to secure a meeting with the immigration minister as well as put our agenda in front of the Home Affairs Select Committee.

Principle have quickly become an essential part of our team once more, improving our engagement with MPs and other stakeholders, and raising our profile amongst policy makers. We find their perspectives and insight from across the charity sector a fantastic resource, whilst their ability to adapt to our organisation’s ways of working, their can-do attitude, and clear dedication to our cause are all greatly appreciated.
Laura Lehman, Head of Marketing and communications
Principle Consulting made sure that our voice was heard when it mattered most. As an organisation whose people and services felt the worst ravages of the pandemic, we needed a consultancy we could trust to help us lobby behind the scenes and raise our voices in public – and Principle have done just that.
